Career Pathways is an education and training program utilized in the United States to assist employees transitioning from college to the work force. The National Association of Manufacturers recommends that students major in a related field such as business, so the path should be selected based on this criterion. When selecting a career path, students must carefully select a career path that applies to their career goals. This program was designed to assist workers transition between education and employment.

The two most common career paths are usually related to the manufacturing or service industries. Manufacturing refers to those jobs in sales, engineering, clerical, or white-collar positions. Service jobs refer to those in sales, human resources, or administrative positions. When employees move from one career path to the other, they need to be provided with relevant career advice that will help them select a career path that will fit their skills and interests best. This is where career Pathways helps.

Employees are encouraged to consider their strengths, weaknesses, personal interests, work experience, and personality type before selecting a career path. The training provided within Career Pathways ensures that employees choose the right career path for them and their needs. Students undergo a series of assessments that examine aspects of each employee’s personality, career goals, performance, and career motivation. These tests provide the employee with more information than ever before when it comes to choosing an appropriate career path.

During the assessment process, employers ask career path questions that vary depending upon their own needs. For example, some employers ask questions regarding prior work experience, or training. Some employers even ask questions about potentials to develop in specific areas. Other employers have no set criterion for selecting a career path, and the employee simply makes the choice themselves based on what will make them happy.

Once the organization has gathered information to select a career path, the next step is to create an individual action plan. This is a written plan that outlines what an employee needs to do in order to achieve employment growth and success within the organization. The plan must include both short-term and long-term plans. In other words, the plan should lay out what to do today to achieve the desired results tomorrow. All employees in an organization should be involved in this planning process in order to ensure that the plan is effective and that all parts of the organization are taking part in the decision making process.

Upon receiving feedback from interviewers and/or reviewing the applicant’s career path, employers review the options and make decisions. Depending upon the feedback, employers make either permanent decisions or take on individuals for temporary positions. At this time, the HR Department is usually involved in this process. They provide HR personnel with information on the interviews, the employee’s hiring history, and the feedback from the interviewers. At this point, it is usually up to the Human Resources personnel to determine which career path the employee is truly in-tune with.

If there is one thing HR professionals must know about career paths is that they are rarely static. Depending upon a company’s industry, there are many different career paths available and employees can find a job in one or more of them. For example, if there are currently four career paths within the human resources department, some employees will be promoted into management and others into supervisory positions; these employees will be interested in seeing what specific industry they could enter.

The HR Department is in place to support HR employees and help them determine which career path is in line with their career goals. It is up to the employer to choose the best career path based on the input from HR and review of applicants. Employers also want to ensure that all employees are moving toward the same career path and that everyone is on the same page. There is really no better way to ensure success for a career path than to implement a system that makes it easy for all of the people involved to communicate.
